Battle of the Web Frameworks
There have been so many people talking about which Web Framework is the best, or how to choose one, or comparing the differences between Struts 2 and JSF, that it can start to become even more confusing. Well finally Manning Publications is going to get a group of there Web Framework authors together at the Emerging Technologies for the Enterprise conference in March to battle it out in a all out Royal Rumble.
Manning is calling this the Battle of the Frameworks! A Roundtable Debate in which they say they will:
...Marjan Bace, we’re bringing together a group of leading developers and authors to discuss and compare the merits and features of these popular tools, including Seam, Struts 2, jQuery, Rails, Flex, and OpenLaszlo.Moderator: Marjan Bace, Publisher, Manning Publications
Panelists:
Dan Allen, author of Seam in Action
Peter Armstrong, author of Flexible Rails
Bear Bibeault, co-author of jQuery in Action, Prototype & Scriptaculous in Action, and Ajax in Practice
Max Carlson, co-author of Laszlo in Action and co-founder of Laszlo Systems
Chad Michael Davis, co-author of Struts 2 in Action
Obie Fernandez, author of "The Rails Way"
Robert Hanson, co-author of GWT in Action
Yehuda Katz, co-author of jQuery in Action
Chris Richardson, author of POJOs in Action
This should be a create debate and I wish I could attend this. I wonder if people like Matt Raible will be there. He has done a couple of presentations on Comparing JVM Web Frameworks . Matt has talked at ApacheCon about this recently, and it is great to see Manning Publications is picking up on developers desire to know more about the advantages and disadvantages of the different frameworks. I just hope that Manning Publications will record this Debate and publish it somewhere so I can benefit from this information as well.

If they are including rails, why don't they include perl frameworks and .net frameworks? Maybe there is an assembly language framework out there too.

I won't be attending as I have a scheduling conflict with TSSJS. I will be talking to Marjan next week, but I'm not sure about what yet.
I agree it sounds like a great debate - I hope they YouTube it.

Matt, I really hope that they put the debate on YouTube or Parley so that everyone can benefit from this knowledge.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to attend, but I just spoke to Marjan about the "battle" and I hear it went very well. While there was no video, alas, we will be receiving an audio recording from the event (though the word is we may have to edit out some of the more colorful language...). Hopefully we'll have that recording up on our site soon.

Ron,
It is great to here that the "battle" went so well. It is also great to hear that everyone was so passionate about the subject at hand :). I wish that I was able to hear the unedited version, because I bet there are some funny comments thrown in there. I will keep my eye out there for the podcast.

Actually, I think the Emerging Technologies folks did get some video and are circulating a waiver to the panelists. They said they hope to get the video posted on their web site as soon as possible.
